The victory was the 5th win from our last 20 runners, continuing a very good run for the stable over winter.

The athletic 5yo has returned from a spell in ripping form this preparation with two second placings putting the writing on the wall for Saturday's win.

Ridden perfectly by Jamie Mott, Red Samurai stalked the speed before taking over off the turn for a comfortable win, responding again when challenged inside the last 200m.

"He's always shown enough to say he's a city class horse but he's been a work in progress. This looks like being his best prep and I'm sure he'll end up back in town soon enough," Shea said.

Jockey Jamie Mott had a feel of the horse in a previous run at Cranbourne and hatched a plan for Saturday's race believing the horse was a superior chaser.

"I like him, he really chases hard when there's a horse in front of him and I've got no doubt he'll get 1400m," Jamie said.

Congratulations to all the owners on win number three, James Abel, Dave Donnelly, Graham Dunphy, Myles Hunter, James Hunter, Alissa Hunter, Mick Sharkie, Tracey Taylor, Mandy & Graham Taylor.
