It was great to see Ocular return to the track in emphatic fashion when he trounced a handy Benchmark 70 1100 field at Bendigo yesterday. Beginning from the inside barrier Jye McNeil allowed the four year gelding to cruise up behind the leaders before getting a rails run as they straightened and the race was over in the twinkling of an eye.
Ocular’s turn of foot saw him put a space on his rivals in a matter of metres and he went to the line eased down to win by over four lengths in the smart time of 1.2.78. As Shea commented in his pre race interview “the horse is expected to run well but he is not fully wound up for today’s race”. There is plenty of improvement to come.
The horse showed well above average potential in his first campaign and yesterday’s impressive win should ensure he is in for a big spring with a number of options being explored from 1200 to 1600 at both Listed and Group level.
Congratulations to all owners and a big thank you again to our hardworking staff who have been pivotal to the outstanding start to the season for the stable.
