Our in form mare SMOKIN AL (4yo m Al Samer x Aurora's Hot) continued her excellent winter campaign with a powerful last to first win at Sale to take the Laurels Function Centrey BM70 Hcp on Thursday.

It was the mare's second win at Sale this preparation and her 4th win from just 10 starts as she continues to progress with purpose.

"I've always thought she was a city class mare and this prep she is realising that potential. That was a huge win today to come from last with a finish like that," Shea said.

"We'll go to Flemington for a 1400m race in two weeks and then reassess. While she is fit and racing well it might be worth trying to add some black type early in the spring."

A close relation of Sydney Cup winner Niwot, Smokin Al has scope for further improvement with jockey James Winks giving her great praise after the win. James has been doing a bit of work for the stable recently and we appreciate his talents and expertise.

Better news for the stable is that Smokin Al's younger half-sister by Amadeus Wolf and younger half-brother by Guineas winner Anacheeva are both showing good talent. They turn 3yo and 2yo respectively on August 1st and we look forward to their careers as well.
