Eight months after arriving at our Corinella stables our first European import KING WAY (4yo g Thewayyouare x Artistry) will make his Australian debut at Sandown on Easter Monday.
Prior to being purchased by Shea on behalf of clients King Way recorded an amazing win over 2400m at Longchamp and it was that run that confirmed his potential as a Group class stayer.
"Mick Sharkie and David Baker had been keeping an eye out for a possible import and when we started to follow this fellow through the 3yo Hcp races he was the only one I wanted," Shea said.
"I flew to Newmarket to get to know him before he went into quarantine and I was just so thrilled to have secured him, I couldn't believe I was bringing a horse like him home."
After taking a little time to settle into the Australian summer, King Way has gone ahead in leaps and bounds this campaign and pleased champion jockey Damien Oliver with a trial performance on Monday at Cranbourne.
"Damien just said he feels every bit a stayer but one with a bit of class, and he agreed to give him a test at his first start for us which is great," Shea said.
"Look, 1600m is probably going to be a too short for him on Monday but as long as he hits the line strongly we will have a lot to be excited about going forward to spring," said Shea.
