SPORTS WRITER (3yo f Written Tycoon x Winning Team) became the latest young horse to continue our good run of recent winning form when she broke her maiden in stylish fashion at Pakenham on Tuesday.

After a speedy debut at the same track when just nabbed on the line, Sports Writer was ridden quietly in the 1000m Viatek 3yo Maiden Plate and finished at a rate of knots under jockey James Winks, signalling a bright future.

She defeated a number of well regarded young horses and looks likely to make her way to city class races over the next 6-months.

"She's a sister to It Is Written which we all know is still racing to a high level as a seven year old so the family do take some time. She's probably a little better than she's been showing us at home which is a real positive," Shea said.

"I know it's spring but there is not reason to rush her to better races. She still does a bit wrong and she's a filly of the future."

Jockey James Winks was full of praise for the filly as he notched yet another winner for our stable.

"She made good improvement from start one to two and really finished full of running today which is great. She's improving and is going to make a nice horse in time," he said.

The filly became yet another winner purchased by Shea at the yearling sales and in his five years of training to date, only three horses that Shea has bought at the sales have not been able to win a race; a truly remarkable strike rate.

Congratulations to winning connections Greg Badgery, Jane Brettell, Jenny Churchill, Joanne Gilmore, Doug Gniel, Ann Gniel, Marnie Harding, Balmoral Lodge Mgr: Mrs K Thomas, Steve O"Rourke, John O'Rourke, Grace Schneider, and Ray Wilson
