Akamon smashes them

Jan 07, 2018

Patience paid off yet again when New Zealand import AKAMON (5yo g Castledale x Might Be) broke his maiden in stunning fashion at Geelong on Thursday, belting his rivals by more than three-lengths.

Purchased on the recommendation of Lenny Russo from Bluegrass Bloodstock, Akamon has had a couple of minor hiccups since arriving at our Cranbourne stable but Shea and his team have taken great care in returning the horse to full health.

"He's had a couple of little issues but we're on top of that now - what you saw today is the tip of the iceberg in terms of his talent," Shea said.

"Lenny is one of the best judges of the New Zealand form and when he put the horse to my clients and I we were very keen to get him into our stable. He ran a fantastic race at his only start in New Zealand and Chris Waller's Up N Rolling came out of the same race - he's stakes class - and Akamon's times were nearly as good."

Settling just behind the leaders for jockey Nikita Beriman, Akamon ambled to the lead by the 350m and cleared out quickly, opening up a wide margin to win as his jockey liked.

"He's got good ability and this should take him forward into staying races - he can go through the grades if he keeps improving the little things, the talent is there," Beriman said.

Congratulations to all the winning connections.

We are actively purchasing more of these proven New Zealand gallopers - if you'd like to secure a place in the next one please contact Shea or the stable.
