Too Strong at Sale

Sep 11, 2017

It's not often that a trainer can coax a horse from the stable of champion Darren Weir back to winning form but that is exactly what Shea managed on Sunday when STRONG HAND (6yo g Not A Single Doubt x Three Diamonds) romped home with the House Proud BM64 Hcp at Sale.

Strong Hand arrived at Eden Racing in March this year and had not won a race since August 2015. A talented horse and winner of four straight races early in his career, Strong Hand has been coaxed back to his best with Sunday's 3.75-length victory a signal that there is still some fire left in his belly.

"When the horse arrived the Mustica boys (Sam, Dan, and Pat) said they just wanted to see if he could get back to a win, it had been a while between drinks," Shea said.

"We spent some time getting to know the horse and what makes him happy, and the penny has dropped the last two runs. It's not easy getting a horse second hand from Weiry, he's an absolute champion and I've got so much respect for him and how he goes about it, so I'm thrilled we could get a win with this bloke."

The victory was the latest success for jockey Nikita Beriman and our team, in fact, Beriman has ridden all three winners for our team so far.

Beriman enjoyed a unique double of sorts on Sunday when she was notified by Shea that she had been booked for the first two runs of Ocean Embers' Spring campaign - the G1 Moir Stakes and the G2 Schillachi Stakes.

"I'm really excited about the mare," Beriman said.

"I've been working with her all prep and she's really switched on, you can feel the class that she has, I can't wait to ride her in a race."
