Barefoot continues a special relationship
Jul 20, 2017
Shea's confidence in BAREFOOT TYCOON (4yo g, Written Tycoon x Barefoot Marvel) at Sale today certainly misguided as the strapping son of sire of the moment Written Tycoon stormed to an easy first-up win.
Under the care of jockey Brad Rawiller, who continued a strong strike rate with our stable, Barefoot Tycoon was always in a position to strike throughout the 1300m BM64 contest and once the rider asked for an effort in the straight the horse quickly booted into gear.
A winner on debut at Cranbourne last year, Barefoot Tycoon takes every bit of Shea's expertise to get him to the races - ongoing niggles and a "leave it all on the track" attitude means that the horse requires special management and preparation.
"He takes a bit of work that's for sure but he's worth it," said Shea.
"The credit goes to all of my team, especially the girls at Corinella (Eden Racing's beach stable). They look after him a lot and he loves the seaside environment, when he comes to Cranbourne it's to gallop and get ready for a race."
Bred by loyal stable supporters Ron and Kim Thomas, Barefoot Tycoon has what it takes to progress to city class races and has now won two of his five career starts.
"It means a lot to me to get a result with this horse for Ron and Kim. They are two of my most loyal supporters and are like family to me, they are special people," said Shea.
"They breed a few horses and race a few with me, all they want is to enjoy the experience of a win so the more wins I can get them the better."
Followers of the Eden Racing website, Twitter or Facebook accounts would have been just as thrilled with the result as Shea gave the horse a good push in our stable update this morning.
